Hello my darlings,

This delicious dessert recipe for Camellia Tea Cakes is my niece’s new favorite thing. She LOVED getting a whole cake to herself and I didn’t feel guilty about giving her one because there is no refined sugar in these babies!

Camellia Tea Seed Oil

The main event in this recipe is the Camellia Tea Seed Oil. Here is the link to the oil I used in my recipe and here is the link to the Camellia Flower Tea which gives us the unique and floral flavor! What’s interesting here is these two ingredients come from two completely different plants. The oil comes from the Tea plant where the flower tea comes from the Camellia Japonica.

Remember that just like the different nutrients in different sources, ingredients can have different effects when ingested versus when they are applied topically. For instance, the nutritional benefits of Camellia Tea Seed Oil in this recipe are: high levels of oleic acid, linoleic acid, alpha-linolenic acid, and stearic acid. These omega fatty acids help reduce inflammatory conditions (eczema, psoriasis, acne, arthritis, etc.), protect your body against cancer, and prevent conditions like heart disease and high cholesterol. The seed oil is considered to be the oriental olive oil due to the similarities in constituents, the main difference being the tea polyphenols and tea saponin which are wonderful antioxidants that aid in protecting the process of aging.

The Camellia Tea Seed Oil when applied topically is highly moisturizing on the skin. This oil will leave your skin feeling soft and supple, rejuvenating the complexion and revitalizing the look of your skin. Its vitamin A, B and E content can be seen working to prevent the visible signs of aging and aid in softening the appearance of scars.

Camellia Glow Solid Face Oil

This product from Eminence Organic Skincare is the reason I designed this recipe! I love this luxurious oil for the beautiful glow it gives your skin when applied. The Camellia Glow Solid Face Oil can be used day or night. During the day, it can be layered on before you apply your makeup for a delicious dewy look. When applied at night, it can be used to lock in moisture using a method called slugging. PLUS it is infused with pink tourmaline gemstones to boost positive thoughts and generate an inner glow.

The glaze in this recipe ends up coming out in a very similar texture! So you know, the Camellia Glow Solid Face Oil is kinda like frosting your face, good for those who want to look like a glazed doughnut.

Tips for Baking

You can substitute the Camellia Tea Seed Oil for coconut oil if you don’t have any on hand and still want to make this recipe. You can also substitute the Camellia Flower Tea for any tea, however I would recommend a floral tea to maintain the flavor.

If you don’t want to use gluten free flour, you absolutely can use cake flour. I choose to use gluten free flour to avoid the inflammatory issues gluten triggers in the body which can lead to acne and exacerbate inflammatory conditions as I said above. You can also use desiccated coconut instead of gluten free flour which is an even healthier alternative but your cakes will not be as dense, they will be dry and most likely a little gritty in texture. I would advise adding another egg to assist in binding your cakes.

I substituted ½ cup of almond milk + 1½ tsp of lemon juice for my buttermilk. I meant to make my own butter for this recipe but grabbed organic half & half instead of cream so I had to get creative. Typically, if I am making my own butter, 2 cups of organic cream will yield ½ cup of butter and 1 cup of butter milk so I wouldn’t have needed to create my vegan alternative, but now you know how to do either option. Importance of Creamed Butter

The creamed butter step is actually a very important step in a chemistry kind of way. The butter and sugar must be combined to a point where the sugar is no longer gritty but is not a melty mess. Creaming the butter (fats) and sugar properly is important for texture and to have your goods rise in the oven correctly. Make sure your butter is a soft, room temp not melted in the microwave. The best way to do this is to leave out for a few hours.

I made mine with my bundt cake pan and loved how cute they turned out. This is such a kid friendly and fun recipe! My niece helped me make the frosting so we could enjoy these healthier treats for our Easter Tea Party. SO CUTE. And what’s even cuter? We ate these cakes around 6pm and she never had that alarming sugar crash that comes after candy or processed sugars. She fell asleep at 9pm and slept through the whole night! If you are a mom or an auntie, you’ll know just how valuable a treat without the sugar hangover can be.
