Hello my darlings,

If you are here to discover how to use Tea Tree Oil for skin health, you’ve come to the right place for ALL the details from a holistic Esthetician – including product recommendations and a DIY recipe! First off, I would like to say, I am just so glad this question is being asked. Of all the ingredients out there in the world, I am glad this is a trending ingredient on TikTok. Natural ingredients are my favorite ingredients in skincare, but there are always caveats – and this my darlings is one of them.

Discover the benefits of tea tree oil for skin health

Tea tree oil for skin health is AMAZING! Professionally speaking, my answer is yes let’s use it BUT you can’t just go wipe tea tree oil on your skin. Like I said, I love natural ingredients but there is a huge caveat to this one. So before you go out and purchase a bottle of tea tree oil for skin health, let’s talk about how to use tea tree oil on your skin.

Tea tree oil is a bit too potent in its pure form. It can actually burn your skin if applied directly, such as in spot treatment methods. This would severely inhibit the skin from healing from a breakout because now it needs to recover from burns as well as from the inflamed pore. Tea tree oil should not be used directly as a toner for tightening pores either. Any form of undiluted contact on the skin will do you no favors.

So How Can I Use Tea Tree Oil For Skin Health?

The most common & simple way would be to dilute with a carrier oil. Always start small and if your skin tolerates the amount well, you can add more. I would start with no more than one drop of tea tree oil per one teaspoon of carrier oil. So if you’re mixing up a bottle of your own tea tree oil elixir, for every teaspoon of carrier oil, you could add one drop of tea tree oil. (5 tsp carrier oil – 5 drops tea tree oil)

But which carrier oil to use? Well…there are numerous oils for you to choose from, all have different benefits and some would actually not work as well as others depending on your skin type. I recommend reading A Guide to the Best Oils for Your Skin, where I discuss over 7 oils and their benefits for your skin and what skin types & concerns they suit best.

Skin Care Products that Use Tea Tree Oil for Skin Health

This part is super easy for me. I recommend everything in the Clear Skin Probiotic line from Eminence Organics contains the perfect amount of tea tree oil for skin health. Each product is balanced with other ingredients like cucumber and yogurt to make your skin feel soft and smooth.

I absolutely love using the Clear Skin Probiotic Masque during facials, after stimulating the skin or doing an enzyme peel. It feels minty cool and fresh on the skin. This means it is also excellent to use on a sunburn to cool and soothe the skin.

The Clear Skin Probiotic Cleanser is an effective deep pore cleanser on the skin but at the same time feels refreshing and revitalizing. Even with the Clear Skin Probiotic Moisturizer you can feel the freshness of the tea tree oil! This moisturizer is amazing for acneic skin – the tea tree oil helps to clean the pores and it’s lightweight and breathable, the ideal texture! This product series makes using tea tree oil for skin health incredibly simple and safe.

Other Important Notes on Using Tea Tree for Skin Health

When purchasing any essential oil, you need to make sure it is from a quality source!!! I prefer to purchase mine on Etsy actually, but I recommend Revive Oils as well (the price point is better than Doterra or YoungLiving).

Please make sure the oils you are purchasing are pure, therapeutic grade oils – preferably organic. Especially if we are going to be using tea tree oil for skin health. You can’t be sure you are getting the real thing without knowing you are buying your essential oils from a reliable source. Seriously, using the wrong product topically or inhaling the vapors can actually be dangerous, so please do your due diligence.

Anti-Inflammatory (meaning it reduces redness, swelling, and pain from the sources of inflammation) This makes it excellent for reducing blemishes, for skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis which are caused by inflammation in the body.

There are so many uses for tea tree oil for skin health. If you have a question about how to use tea tree oil for skin health, please feel free to DM me on Instagram @bewitchedskinandsoul or use any of my other methods of contact found on my contact page. For now, here are some of my favorite uses!

Tea Tree Oil can reduce acne and other inflammatory conditions. Using in tandem with specific carrier oils (I recommend jojoba oil for people with acne, maybe vitamin E oil if you have intense scarring).

Tea Tree Oil can be used in hair products to reduce dandruff due to its antifungal properties. I also know of a person who suffered from a fungal overgrowth on her skin. She used dandruff shampoo to control the issues but I directed her to products containing tea tree oil to manage the issue more effectively.

Tea Tree Oil can be used as a natural hand sanitizer due to its antimicrobial, fungicidal, and antiseptic properties.

Tea Tree Oil can be used as an alternative to DEET, it may even be more effective against mosquitos! It is also deadly to house flies.

Tea Tree Oil can be used to make natural deodorant! Aluminum and chemical free babyyy. When sweat is produced and mingles with the bacterias on your skin, this causes an odor. Tea tree oil kills the bacterias that cause these odors. Good to have in a pinch.

Recipe for Using Tea Tree For Skin Health

Ok my darlings, here is my favorite at home recipe using Tea Tree Oil. Where my blue collar workers out there? How about mammas with sick babies? I’d like to introduce you to my Fixer Elixir Balm! It’s excellent for a working man’s hands (helps to keep cuts, scrapes and blisters clean). My husband is IN LOVE with the stuff. He’s a plumber and he never wears gloves, comes home at least once a week with a deep cut on his hands that are covered with chemicals and dirt. This balm hydrates his dry skin, the tea tree oil for skin health keeps the cuts clean and feels as soothing as Burts Bees chapstick!

But that’s not all! It doubles as a natural alternative to Vicks Vapo rub that is safe for babies (6+ months)! It was a real lifesaver when my one year old had a cold right before her first birthday. Poor thing had the worst congestion, could hardly breathe to eat or sleep until I started rubbing this on her chest!

*I am an over cautious mom myself, so I want to make the statement that yes I use this on my child but you should always ask your healthcare provider if it’s safe for you. I use a small amount of tea tree oil for skin health in this recipe and NO peppermint so there is no menthol which can be harmful to small children and why we want this as an alternative to Vicks (as well as because of the camphor).

Equipment

  • 1 double boiler If you don't have a double boiler, you can easily create your own. Use a medium size pot and a bowl that will fit to rest against the rim over the water. The point of a double boiler is to have the contents of the inside bowl or vessel to heat up over boiling water to reduce the chances of burning.
  • 1 stirring rod
  • 1 set of measuring spoons
  • 1 jar with lid

Materials

  • 4 tsp beeswax
  • 6 tbsp coconut oil
  • 3 tbsp Shea Butter
  • 10 drops tea tree oil
  • 10 drops eucalyptus essential oil
  • 5 drops lavender essential oil

Instructions

  • Prepare your double boiler or alternative by filling with water. Bring to a delicate boil. (This just means a soft boil, or a boil in which the water does not splash or spatter outside of the pot.)
  • Add beeswax, Shea butter, and coconut oil. Melt and combine.
  • Remove from heat.
  • Pour immediately into jar.
  • Let cool for 10 minutes
  • Add essential oils and combine thoroughly.
  • Place in the fridge for four hours or in a cool spot overnight to set. The process will be complete when the contents of the jar are a solid white color, the surface will be firm and buttery.

Notes

*Please consult with your healthcare provider for babies and only use on 6 months + and ask about dosage for your child.
*Always use quality, pure ingredients - preferably certified organic.
